Searched and didn't find this on WIX. Looks like it's right out of "Joe 90".

There are not only aircraft we know, but there are aircraft we know we don't know, and then there are aircraft that we don't know we don't know. ;)

Sadly, entirely due to poor stress calculations, an interesting project foundered and more importantly a pilot was killed.

What I don't understand is why in the phuck the forestry service would have been throwing money away on a contraption like that in the first place as I wouldn't believe they should havbe anything to do with harvesting trees as that would be a commerical operation.

Giving Piasecki money could be a reason but how can that be justified for a federal agency to be investing I mean throwing away money for something that would benefit tree harvesters bottom line and is not the job of governement on a silly azz contraption like that which if one engine (even if they had used turbines in later developments) quits it woul be hair raising to say the least especially under a load.

Forestry idiots should have paid the pilots family for something they fostered.

It's always unfortunate when a pilot loses their life, especially in a forty million dollar pile of surplus helicopters, high-tension power line towers and a giant gas bag. I just hope the engineers didn't slap their collective foreheads after the accident and say, "Oh right, wind!"

Every time I see the video of the PA-97 I think of some of those early, unsuccessful flying machines. Right around the 0:41 mark here you can see there really are no new ideas...
