Great recovery videos

Tue Nov 30, 2010 7:57 am

Not sure if this has been mentioned recently but the following site features some excellent pictures and video footage of the recovery of a P-47, P-38 and Swamp Ghost from Papua by Alfred (Fred) Hagen.

The state of preservation of the P-47 is quite something. Can't believe the pilot managed to put it down on that steep ridge.

Not sure about the status of the P-38 as the video doesn't show it being pulled out of the swamp. The text suggests it was recovered though. Can anyone provide any further details please?

Check out the information under the Salvages menu item.

The Pacific Wrecks site provides a great interior shot of the same P-47. Quite incredible.

Those are really great videos. I had no idea that they dropped one of Swamp Ghost's wings when they were lifting them out of the crash site by helicopter. I presume little damage was done as it was never really mentioned.

Thanks for posting. I'd like to learn more about the show the Swamp Ghost clip came from.

Peace,

They mucked it up pretty good and thats why you dont hear about it.She wont ever fly which is a good thing because too much stuff would have to be changed out and most of her would end up on the floor when she was done.

As a general remark the opposite applies - we only get to hear about the minor / amusing / recovered-from screw ups, not the big or embarrassing ones. Of course we never make mistakes under pressure, do we? :axe:

Peace[ful & safe lifting]
