Hi everybody,

I found a 300 USG central external fuel tank for my Skyraider but now I need a central pylon to mount it on the fuselage.
If you have one or know where I can find one, it's should be very appreciated.

Hi Christophe,
I was looking for the same parts not to long ago for our Skyraider. I didn't find the exact pylon I needed, but found the centerline pylon from an A4 Skyhawk to be a suitable replacement. I think you may have better luck finding one of those in leiu of an original. There are pictures of ours on our website as well as our Skyraider loaded for bear at Oshkosh 2010.
Our website is www.warbirdheritagefoundation.org
Good luck in your search and that is a good looking Skyraider you have.

Hello David,

Many tanks for your help, so now :D I am looking for an A4 centerline pylon. I wrote to Fighting Classics Aircraft Restoration at Mike 'Maj' McDougall because they had restaured an A4, following your advice and now waiting an answer.
But if someone knows where I can find that part or which I could ask, it should be also very appreciated.
So, that is a good looking Skyraider you have too. :D

Bests regards,

Christophe.

Hello David,

We received the A4 Pylon and it seems that it's the good one. The 300 USG fuel tank is on de way coming from Florida.
Now, the next weeks are going to be very busy. To make us spare time, would you have a detailed photo by your pylone gone up on your AD1?

Manythanks for your help, bests regards,

Christophe.

Hi Christophe,
Here are some pictures of the A4 pylon on our Skyraider. We made L-brackets that bolted into the airframe and then picked up the holes in the pylon.

Then we made a new nose fairing to fit the cut out in the oil cooler door.

We also added a nutplate to support the tail fairing of the pylon by accessing the fuel bladder drain panel.

Hope this helps.

Christophe,
That looks fantastic. Glad we could help out. I finished a new tail fairing for our pylon last week so ours now looks pretty close to yours. Get ready for some slower cruise numbers. We lost about 30 kts with all of our ordnance installed.
Take Care,
David

Hi Christophe,
That looks fantastic. Kind of funny to hear about the 30 kts. I noticed you still have the long tail with the fins on your drop tank. Tromblay Tool has made us a new dome for the tail of our drop tank for ground clearance and we are going to reactivate our dive brakes. Do you have the lower dive brake on yours? If you're interested in the short tail, give the Tromblay's an e-mail and they can make one like ours. I'll get you a picture of it the next time I'm at their shop.
Take Care and again that looks great.
