Matthias, do you know if the Meier brothers have chosen a paint scheme for their F4U-5NL yet? Do they know they have a very rare and unique gem of a combat veteran on their hands? Nine months in the combat zone with VMF(N)-513 "Flying Nightmares" squadron fighting over Korea. The only one from this famous night-fighting squadron to survive.

I've got the US Navy history card for the plane so let there be no doubt. All of the Corsairs that went to Argentina were surplus US Navy birds that had been in service with the United States for many years prior. The only Corsairs specifically built for a foreign nation were the F4U-7's built under contract for France.

Hi Matthias,thanks for the background info on the Spit,I had not realised that it had historical significance before it was brought on charge with the RAAF,nor did I realise that it sat stored for four years before disposal.Good thing the WIX registry is at our fingertips!!The change in the Corsair is awesome & the paint outstanding,I am doing some restoration work on a F4U-5 ex Honduran machine here in Australia to be finished in authentic Honduran colours when finished,it is good to see a variety of schemes being worn especially when they are genuine,cheers,Pete

Hi Matthias

Normally I keep up to date on your posts over on the Key Publishing forums, but I sometimes check in on here, too!

The Spitfire also appeared in the 2001 film Dark Blue World, painted in similar markings to the Spitfires used in the 1969 film Battle of Britain, so that the director could match up the new footage with out-takes from the film in post-production.

I have photos (somewhere) of the Spitfire in her Pearl Harbor colours, along with the three MkVs.
