Warbird Information Exchange

The Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run re-opened to the public today, and a few Planes came out to welcome them home. The flying collection is still based at Grosse Ile until the main hangar is built, but here are a few pics from todays festivities.












The Flying action all took place directly overhead, so it was pretty tough to get a good shot. There were two sets of flyiby's with the black MIG-17, and few passes by a three ship of T-6's joined by a BT-13.

All in all, a lovely day for October in Michigan, and any day with Warbirds is a good day.

Great news and what a wonderful day for it. I understand that the flyables will be on location and in a hangar by this time next year, and that a larger museum building in the next few year. It will be a wonderful tribute to the men and women who made up the arsenal of democracy and saved the world. A worthy cause in my book. (come on Mr. President, how 'bout some stimulus cash to help them along)

Yeah, the new museum will be built right across the parking lot from where their new building with the artifacts and restoration shop are. There are a few issues though, such as the taxi way from that sight isn't large enough to handle a B-17. Looking forward to it though.
