But it's not really sixteen Spitfires, is it Peter? :hide:

Seriously though, nice stuff.

It was an awe-inspiring sight.

The two Griffon-engined beasts (Kennet Aviation Seafire Mk.XVII SX336 & French-based PR Mk.XIX PS890) looked a bit sad in my view as they appeared to be holding back on the horsepower whilst following the lazy-8's and watching the Tr.9's and a solitary(?) Mk.IX (TA805 from memory) flying some pretty spectacular airfield beat-ups.

From my vantage point at the far West of the airfield it was a Spitfire nut's dream - so I was very happy indeed.

As has been mentioned on other forum's (plural of forum - fora?), the minute's silence was incredibly well supported. The quiet that fell across the packed airfield was pretty eerie, but a fitting tribute to those who have gone before. It restored my previously media-jaded faith in my fellow countrymen and their collective pride in the UK.

I should've got the T-shirt last time.

Not a common event, but as we can see, not without precedent. And there's no Seafires* pretending in this lot...

I'd be interesting to see how many are in both this 1998(?) formation and this September's.

This shot's list (By Ant Harrington, btw) TE566, BM597, ML407, ML417 - EP120, TD248, PS853, MV263 - PL965, TE184, PV202, MH434 - AB910, PS915, PM631, P7350.

(*Joking aside, the fact that we now have several airworthy Seafires is a cause for much satisfaction. There weren't any around when this shot was taken.)

Peter, are you trying to fool us into beliveing that those shadows are actually from the one and only real and genuine sun being out in a Duxford sky? Come on, we may be a little slow here in the colonies, but we know better than that.
It must be photoshop, but it sure looks nice.
Which one is OV2?

If I may be allowed to express such sentiments.

THANK GOD they are celebrating a gathering of Spitfires and Hurricanes over this field and not of Messerschmitts.

"But Houston we don't have an OV2"

Do you mean this one, Bill?
