Probably his regular bird was u/s and he was flying one of the other aircraft.

You have to remember that Bong flew early OD/ Gray F,G, H Lightnings for at least the first 26 kills he had. Marge was much later in the game. There are photos of other 38s that Bong flew with the 9th FS I don't believe he named any of those 38s prior to going home after his 26th kill.

Thanks, i figured realistically it wasn't.

Does anyone see any Identifiers that might help to figure out what model P-38 the Maj. is sitting in? Also are those "Tape Lines" over the panel seams?......... From overseas transport or what?

The seams were taped over then some kind of a sealant was brushed on over that. The dark area next to where the tape had been is where the sealant is on the paint.

He is listed as having flown P-38G "White 73" and P-38H "White 79".
