Roberto Clemente's DC-7

On this what would have been Robert Clemente's 76th birthday, I wondered if the plane (a Douglas DC-7) he was flying in when he died has ever been located off Puerto Rico.

According to a biography of Clemente, the wreckage was found underwater but Clemente's body was never found, other than one sock that washed up :(

This holds a special place in my heart as Clemente is a hero in Pittsburgh(my hometown). I took a cruise a few years back and went to Puerto Rico on one of the stops. I was wearing a Pirates shirt, and everywhere I went people asked me if I was from Pittsburgh and told me what a hero he was. he made a big impact there.

The wreckage was actually found and most of the plane was restored and placed in a park in puertorico. I remember going to the park as a kid and climbing into the actual plane he crashed in.
