I heard a rumor of multiple more than two, P-38's heading to Reno for the races this year. Has anyone else heard this rumor?

It has been confirmed. There is a possibility of six being there.

Aren't we are getting 2 different airshows mixed up. I heard the Allied Fighters P-38 and "23 Skidoo" will be at Reno. The six P-38's will be at the California Capital Airshow Sept 11th & 12th.

I don't know where it all stands as of right now but the original idea put forth by the promoters was that the 6 Lightnings would attend the Capital airshow and then all 6 would proceed from there to Reno for race week. Time will tell I suppose.

No, all the P-38's that attend the Capital Airshow are going to Reno afterwards. The stated goal is 6, but we all know how that works out when it comes to mechanical problems, weather, pilot availability, etc.

"Warbird 1" is correct.
All six currently flying P-38's in the U.S. are scheduled and have agreed to come to the California Capitol Air Show. Potential mechanical problems aside, they then plan to fly over to Reno during the week between the two shows.
If we get all six to actually make it, it's going to be a memorable show.
Tentative airshow flight times for the P-38's at Mather Field are 15:00 for both Saturday, Sept. 11 & Sunday, Sept. 12. There is a P-38 acro demonstration scheduled and a Heritage flight planned following the mass P-38 flight that will feature the P-38's (three P-38 qualified Heritage pilots are expected to be at the show) and the F-22 Raptor.

It's gonna be one for the books! :)

Now if we could just get the 6 F7F's to show up at the same time.. ;)

There is one F7F scheduled to attend as well as WIX'er Chuck Wahl and his award winning SNJ!
