Douglas DC-7B

Hi Guys,

I was wondering that since this aircraft has been restored and has now been to two major airshows in Oshkosh and most recently, Thunder, I was wondering that since I was unable to attend either show if anyone got some good static and in flight shots of her. I ask this because this particular aircraft, if memory serves me well, was a fixture at St. Paul Downtown Airport for many years slowly sliding into disrepair and decay, until the project was undertaken to transform her into, from what I can tell, a very nice looking representation of her breed.

Please take pity on this less fortunate avid enthusiast <okay...shameless plug here> and post some photo's of her suitable for use as wallpaper.

The DC-7 is doing flights out of Teterboro NJ for the next few days. This morning on the news the reporters warned the public not to be alarmed to see a vintage airplane flying near Manhatten :roll:

It's a BEAUTIFUL airplane and I enjoyed seeing it at Oshkosh and at Thunder Over Michigan.

Many Moons Ago, when I was in A&P school, I had an Instructor, that had flown as the F/E on Sevens, his son-n-law works with me. I am going to make sure he see's this thread with the pics. Thanks Guys, your shots are great.

The altitude is kept to about 2000 feet and therefore you were able to get a good feel of the speed of this girl....the exhaust just glowed red for the entire flight...check out the shadow under us..

And once in the air ... flight deck was open to visitors....these guys are focused....father & son on the yokes...and Carlos on the engines..

I don't have it in front of me, but my neighbor (Eastern retiree) has one flight out of MIA in that aircraft as FE. His log showed the date, duration, rest of the crew, etc. I know he's excited to see the old girl flying.

Was sitting on the front steps to my house this morning when I heard something big and round flying around. The sound put what ever it was on final into Newport News/Williamsburg (PHF) it seemed to take forever to show itself. It was the DC-7B and darn was I surprised. Grabbed my Dad (who was down for a visit), my camera and the car keys.
Turns out that they dropped in for a fuel stop on their way home from Teterboro. Even with a 2 buck discount they were going to be paying over six dollars a gallon in NJ, here they were getting fuel for less then 4 and a half. Economics 101 made this a really smart pit stop. The FBO and crew were extremely friendly and a joy to meet and spend time with. Even got a little oily helping the crew chief with his turnaround (once a crew chief always a crew chief)!
Had to laugh at the thought of what the commerical pilots thought when taxiing up and seeing that legend of the sky sitting there. The takeoff was sweet music to the ears of someone that loves big and round.

I don't want to hijack this excellent thread, but I have to toss in an unrelated (but somehow related!) comment. . .

A few years back (early 2007, I think) we had the B-17 on display at an aviation career day event at D/FW Airport. While taxiing out for takeoff, we were told to hold short of Rwy 36R for landing traffic, which was an American Airlines MD-87. As the MD-87 touched down and rolled past us, over the radio we heard the following comment from one of its crew: "Wow, a REAL airplane!". That absolutely made our day.

You wanna know what the commercial pilots thought when they saw N836D on your ramp? I'll bet it was the same as when they saw us.
