Just thought I'd do some promo work for our 'Wings over Ontario' Air Show celebrating 25 Years of CHAA and 10 Years of the Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team (CHAT)

It will be our scaled-down version of Geneseo packed into one day.

I know it's kinda late to be doing this sort of stuff but all three of our events this summer have been this way.
We haven't had much time leading up to these events as most of the funding came from a grant that we didn't receive until the end of March.
Getting the go-ahead that late had a huge impact in getting visiting aircraft as their schedules are usually filled by that point.
Anyway, enough of my rambling. On to the show!

There will be a ceremony on the morning horouring the founding members of CHAA, most notably Bob Hewitt, Norm Beckham and Len Fallowfield, as well as marking the occastion of the Tenth Anniversary of the Aerobatic Team.

*note* the ramp will be open for visitors to take a closer look at the visiting aircraft up until about 11:30 and probably later on in the afternoon once the show is finished

The participating aircraft so far:
All 10 CHAA aircraft (7, possibly 8 flying)
Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team
Russell Aviation Group - Hurricane & Harvard
Vintage Wings of Canada - P-40N Kittyhawk
Great War Flying Museum (3-4 aircraft) --WWI Dogfight Routine--
No. 6 RCAF Dunnville Museum aircraft:
T-28, Yale?, Cornell(s?), Fleet Finch?, Tiger Moth?, Harvard?
Canadian Historical Aircraft Association:
Stearman & Chipmunk (x2)
Tiger Boys aircraft: Fleet 16R and 16B Finches
Jet Aircraft Museum: CT-133 Silver Star -static display only- (privately owned, not one of the 6 from London)
Harvard 4 20413 - Tom Siimes
My Yale 3390 project

And the following aircraft may be attending but are not yet confirmed:
Canadian Warplane Heritage B-25 Mitchell 'Hot Gen' (fly-by only - not landing)

So, if all goes well there is the chance of having over THIRTY aircraft on the field.
It may not sound like a lot for most shows but it would make it the largest show (in terms of aircraft) ever held at Tillsonburg.

If anyone is unfamiliar with how to get to Tillsonburg Airport, it is actually pretty easy to get to.
We're about 10-15 minutes south of Highway 401 exit 218 on Highway 19.
After going through a little place called Mount Elgin you'll be turning left at the fourth road (Airport Road). You can't miss us from there!
(or if you have a GPS just punch in 244411 Airport Road, Tillsonburg, ON)

Lets hope that the third time is a charm for the weather. Rotten luck so far this year. I will be there bright and early. Two questions>

Gate opens at what time?

How much to get in?

Thanks,

Jeff :D

Hi Jeff,

This is still a pretty much a grassroots show. There is no set time for the gates to open.
I would imagine that if you showed up between 8 and 9 we should have the place somewhat in order to let spectators in.
(I'll be showing up at 6ish 8) )

As for a gate fee, as far as I know we are still asking for admission by donation.
Being a charitible organization we can't really charge a set gate fee.
(Just bring lots of extra cash to spend at the stores tables!)

See you there!

I can confirm, that the Fleet Finch 16R operated by the Hamilton Aero Club (me) and the Fleet Finch 16B operated by the Tigerboys are planning to attend and fly in the show.

Awesome! Hopefully the weather gods play nice this time and we can have a flock of yellow birds on the field.

That's great news Dave!

I guess I'll be able to give you that sign back in person. I hadn't gotten around to mailing it yet. See you there.

Had to scratch 'The Movie' Memphis Belle as there isn't a pilot available for next Saturday.

At least now the ramp chief will stop having nightmares on how to park the planes!

Well, due to ongoing issues with the prop, Russell's Spitfire can't make it on Saturday.

However, I've been told it may make an appearance at our September 11th Flyday
(With possibly the Hurricane as well...I don't think Dave has to think twice about that one )
There are also rumours circulating of a C-130 stopping by on Sept. 11th, but I'll just leave it at that for the moment. 8)

Also, I hear that the T-33 will be flown in by 'Turbo' Tarling from Cold Lake, who has over 7600 hours on the T-Bird.
He also flew CF-101 Voodoos among other jets, and is the one who took the famous photo of the CF-101 takeoff in afterburner from another Voodoo in formation.

So, all of you out there reading this please do us a favour: :prayer: :prayer: :prayer: Pray for no rain on Saturday! :prayer: :prayer: :prayer:

See you there.

Shane

Shane,

Sounds like it is going to be a good one. I will be in a office by myself providing phone support and wishing I was at T-Berg :(

Well I just got back from setting up and right now it looks like we're going to have a good show.

No rain in the forecast until tomorrow evening but it will be hot and very, very humid. I guess you can't be too picky.

Anyway, the Hurricane and P-40 have already arrived with the rest of the performers to arrive in the morning.

Here's a couple teaser shots from today:

P-40:

Special formation practice: 8)

And if you happen to stop by tomorrow you're in for a real treat.
CHAA's three founding members (Norm Beckham, Bob Hewitt and Len Fallowfield) will be flown in mid-morning by the three CHAT pilots in their Harvards.
Those who know Norm Beckham will get the idea. There's a good chance this may be his last time up in a Harvard too.

I guess I better get off to bed now. Early start tomorrow!

Shane

Excellent show! Too bad some of the aircraft couldn't make it and the Hurricane couldn't fly, but I saw it and the Spit last year.

Okay, what were those two US Navy planes that left early. Looked a bit like Hellcats, but not quite?

CHAA just has no luck this year, weather stopped a good portion of the acts and the Hurricane's fuel pump crapped out  . Dave H. did two nice displays in the VWoC Kittyhawk.
