So how's that night time air show thing work, anyway.....? Are ground crews training searchlights on the aircraft BoB-style, or are the airplanes self-illuminating like a bunch of big time airliners, or what? Howzit work???

Chicks Dig Warbirds.......right?

All that light is from Gene's wings. They even turn the runway lights off, it's dark. Youkin's Beach was lit like a Christmas tree, but the plane is just too dark to get a good shot of it at night. Best night show I have ever seen, by far.

I didn't really take the time to go through the thread, because I just came back to this forum from a LONG time away, but what was the Official count on the DC-3's ? And was the Warbird turnout as good as or better that past years ?

Not sure about the total tally of DC-3s parked on static but 21 of them were in the mass flypast and arrival. The flypast was led by the B-25 "Pacific Prowler".

The Warbird turnout was up about 20 from last year. I believe it was 371.

Try Basler turbine conversions. Not sure if that's the exact one they were selling at the party I was at in their hangar but it's worth a shot.

Your description matches the ones the Buffalo Airways/Ice Pilots group had for sale. It was Buffalo's logo on the front and a special 75th logo on the back. I don't see them on their merch site so you may want to send them a note to see if they still have some.

I think I counted 26 Gooney birds on Tuesday. THree in the camping area, three or so in Aeroshell or thearabouts, 4 in warbird parking, the rest on the east side of the field. This does not include the static C-47 at the museum or any at Basler.
I can't remember if this list includes the DC-2, but it includes a polished metal and white USAAF , a green and white and a red and white one in camping. Also includes in warbird parking the Israeli C-47, the AC-47 "spooky", an olive drab C-47B or C-53, and Gen of the Air Force's Hap Arnold's immaculate 1938 C-41 which I got to go inside on the warbird line. It's the first gooney bird bought for any military and they only placed an order for one.
The Aeroshell Square area had the DC-2, an AMerican Airlines DC-3, the yellow "Duggy" another C-47 in olive drab with the words "Paratroop" or something on the side, and the very special C-47D. The polished metal and copper C-47D is one of 28 built after WWII in DEC. 1945 and all were exported to foreign countries. Only 12K hours since new,a really special Gooney.
On the eastern ramp away from the crowds, there was the 1939 C-41A (forgot what Gen. it was built for) The FAA's N34, a green Buffalo Airways C-47, a red and white Super DC-3S, seemed to be a civvy paint schemed metal, black and white art deco DC-3 and a Braniff, U.S.Airways, Southern, and Eastern painted example.The rest were too far away to see.
