Dorneir 217 survivors?

Did any Do 217's or pieces thereof survive the war? You dont hear much about this German bomber so I'm thinking there aren't any still around.

No Dornier Do 17 survivors, and there's an unrecovered recently rediscovered Do 217 wreck in shallow waters of (IIRC) Holland(?) Problems over viability of recovery permissions, again, IIRC.

I guess he must be thinking of the rear fuselage that's in their storage area. There's a photo of it on Michael Olrog's site. You are right though about there being no complete survivors in "captivity".

Yes, there is a more or less complete DO 217 wreck in Holland. It belonged to a nightfighter ace, and belly landed at a remote part of the Waddensea. It still remains there, in one piece and almost untouched. However salvaging it is out of order. It is in a sealreservation, and so it is a no go aerea. Is it too far gone, I doubt it as it is so rare. I wrote an article in FlyPast about it, 2 or 3 years ago.

The seals would not be the least disturbed if some group was to go in and salvage this airframe. They are seals for crying out loud. Was Holland invaded by the extremely liberal population of Cafornification (not all people living in California are presumed to be tree hugging nut jobs, freedom void where prohibited by Law) I imagine that the airframe could be extracted with minimal impact on anything it is currently in contact with. Still today.......I remain truly A-Frickin-Mazed

Imagine, I live there! The green mafia is powerfull overhere. Everything related to aviation is forbidden unless, in stead of otherwise. The seals are not allowed to be disturbed, end of story. I also know a JU-88 carcass/hull in the same situation, but that one is in sweet water in stead of the salt one the Dornier is in.
