Military Uniform Insignia

Another friend of mine(Also a newly minted WB owner, Taylorcraft L-2 vintage 1943. Will post pics when I get them developed) came across these items and has no idea as to what country or service they belong. I told him I would post them and see if any one can ID them.

That's what we thought, but the shoulder boards had us puzzled.
