Check the Modellers Gallery Forum under 'B-29 final assembly diorama'. On page 2 below a nice photo of the assembly lines @ Renton, I've given a little background on the buildings and a bit of insight for those who have never been in a large aircraft final assembly building.
DanK, those interior tail gunner shots are just great!

You're welcome. But all the credit goes to the poor soul who keeps clogging up the internet with all this 330th BG nonsense (Must be some kind of addiction. I wonder if his family knows?).

Here are some shots of the Enola Gay's tail turret. I think it is a great example of what they looked like as it is pretty much all original.

Sorry they are real close up as it was hard to get good wide shots with my camera while inside the tail gunners compartment.

This is the tail turret elevation drive motor looking aft. You can see the back plates for the two 50 cal guns just below the motor.

This is one of the two 50 cal ammunition feed mechanisms on the bottom of the turret aft of the armor/pressure bulkhead

This is one of the 50 cal ANM2 guns with the pneumatic gun charger/firing unit on the side of the gun

The pedestal gun sight

The heated suit box mounted overhead of the gun sight

looking up and forward at the tail gunners seat. The first aid kit is mounted above the gunners head

Image

Interphone jack box with headset and microphone cords and the portable oxygen refill hose. I believe that the pilots call lamp is dismounted from its bracket

Image

This is the tail gunners control box for the turret system mounted on the right side of the compartment or to the gunners left. The main oxygen hose along with the portable bottle recharge hose is also visible

Image

These are the amplidynes which are a part of the turret system. One for azimuth and one for elevation. These are on the aircraft's left side and this shot is looking forward. You can see the round opening for the pressure hatch. The canvas bottom of the gunners seat is also just visible along with part of the seat belt

Image

The canvas bottom of the gunners seat. You can also see the rails for adjusting the gunners seat up and down. On the right side of the frame is a warning horn

Image

Here are the two amplidynes and a control box for the turret system. The tube at the bottom is for the ammunition to travel from the ammo box through the pressure compartment to the unpressurized tail turret. The round hatch with the diamond stitch insulation is a removable hatch that the gunner can open (if unpressurized) to get to the turret and guns for service if necessary

Wow, the pictures of the tail turret area really give you a sense for just how complicated and intricate a B-29 really is. Hats off to the Fifi crew!
