Well I never. :partyman: I suppoze Texas is kinda average size for an Australian State, and we have a big star on our flag, but we don't let it get lonely, we've crossed it up. ;)

Meanwhile, back in reality...

just to close off the "off-topic" debate: Who said everything's BIGGER in Texas?

Australia's area is 2,941,300 sq miles compared to the United States at 3,537,441 sq miles

Western Australia 976,790 sq miles
Queensland 666,876 sq miles
Northern Territory 548,640 sq miles
South Australia 379,725 sq miles
New South Wales 312,528 sq miles
<< at 268,601 sq miles, we would put lil'Texas down here with our small States! smiles
<< at 93,026 sq miles, we would put the entire United Kingdom down there with it!
Victoria 91,749 sq miles
Tasmania 26,410 sq miles

In regards to holding on "down-under", we just grow our toe nails longer!

Regards

Mark Pilkington

Well if it's about size....Canada is 3,851,807.61 square miles!

But as for the original topic, glad pilot is ok, and plane is repairable.
The P-39 is one aircraft after all the years I've been around airshows, that i have never seen fly.

And both Canucks and Aussies 'live on the edge', too. Eastern here, Southern your end!

A friend of the (Canadian) Mrs JDK responded to the Texan - "Yes, Texas is quite large. It'll fit into the lakes in my Province." ;)

All a bit of fun, and not to detract from the origin of the thread, I hope. I trust repairs will be documented here, too?

Regards,

Uh, back on the P-39 topic...

Mike (m charters), rest assured that it will be appearing at airshows again. I am heading up to Tyler Sunday to assess the damage and see if we can ferry her home after a little work. While everyone initially agreed with the ferry-if-possible plan, I'm hearing rumors that I may have to do some serious convincing to get approval now. We'll be taking detailed, high resolution pictures an making lots of measurements. I'll get as much info out here as I can as soon as I can. In the meantime, I'm still desperately seeking main landing gear wheels....

Also, just posted some P-63 news on the P-39/P-63 thread.

Thanks!

I'm sure Ray will have a better report soon. Right now he's working on bringing a plan together. I flew five of us up to Tyler in the Mockingbird (U-11) yesterday. The folks at the HAMM are some wonderful people, and their museum is simply beautiful! Oh, and a fantastic burger (and other good eats) at the cafe there in the old terminal as well.

It appears we have been very blessed as the damage to the plane is relatively light. Good thing they were built tough! I think it will be back in the air a lot sooner than some might think, but that's just my opinion as a pilot, but I think the Cobra Den Maintenance Team would agree.

Speaking of the Cobra Den, I'm taking orders for the shirts now. Please reply on the P-39/P-63 thread viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31659 if you would like me to order one for you.
