New Guinea “junked aircraft”
The picture appeared in “Horizon” magazine in January 1960
Caption reads: “Meanwhile civilization has left such marks on the islands as these junked war planes on New Guinea.”
I see A-20s, C-47s, B-25s, at least one P-47 and P-61, perhaps a Zero. Look at all the P-38s! I want to cry!

Was not around doing that time but I still feel like.... :Hangman: .

This is why I have always like the Paific war more then ETO. More variety of aircraft and markings, often forgotten anyway. I wonder what model of A-20's there are? H and G models? I see the P-61 center left on the picture next to a razerback P-47. A few C-47/R4D's as well. I see a few other P-47's and of course many P-38 and A-20 aircraft. I see two B-25C/D center right.

:x

All that was still there in 1960? What a shocking waste.

I'm still hopeful some more burial pits will be found in the pacific area.

Is that another P-61 straight down from that, with it's stbd wingtip resting on a C-47 engine nacelle?

I circled in red whta I am pretty sure to be P-47's. The blue is P-61's. I count around 15-16 P-47's. I see one I missed. :?

I find it amazing. All these aircraft came from a factory floor, fresh and new. And in many cases within a year or two this is where they could be found. :|

Maybe possible to find any of them here? I have received few days before images of Hellcats dumped in Australia just after the WW2.
