Warbird Information Exchange

This is the only info I have, which was provided by another warbird lover:
"It was 1963 and yes it was Republic who brought it over to Europe then Republic test Pilot Glen Bach was the person who did all the flying. The aircraft is P-47D 42-23278 it was one of the Bolts that Bob Bean try to import to Central America but end up sell it to Republic who later donated it to the USAFM in 1964 and where it is today still.
They (Republic) flew it during the 63 Paris Airshow it was parked next to the then new F-105D."

I was lucky enough to be stationed at one of the bases in France (Etain AB) which had been home to P-47s late in World War II. The pilot "wrung her out pretty well" that day. Unfortunately, I did not have my camera with me at the time -- I was on duty and "working" in a restricted area during the demo flight. That "work" allowed me to be on the roof of a small building near the flight line.

It's in one of the CFM maintenance hangars. I saw it a few weeks ago. Wings were pulled for transport.

Any more on that, Taylor (or Doug)? Is restoration done and it's been returned to CFM for assembly? Is it being moved to another shop for completion? Sorry for the interrogation, but some of us have been waiting ever so patiently for this Jug to defy gravity again.

It was a good idea, it just didn't work.

I'm sure Doug has many more details, but it looks about the same as in the photo posted earlier in this thread, just with its wings off to get it from Sherman to Addison. I don't know any details, but it still looks a ways off from being a flyer. Work done so far looks good though. I don't know a time line or anything on the restoration, as the CFM has many great projects. I can't wait to see their Mustang!

I'm sorry traftis, where'd you hear that? Do you consider T-6s, Stearmans, Wildcats, A-26s, C-47s, TBMs, etc. WWII warbirds? Cavanaugh Flight Museum has done more than most to get WWII aircraft restored to flying condition and is one of the few places where you can ride in one daily.
