The Boeing AN-124?

Fri Jun 11, 2010 4:25 pm

June 11 (Bloomberg) -- Boeing Co. may help Russia resume production of the Soviet-era Antonov An-124, or Ruslan, the world's largest mass-produced cargo airplane, Kommersant reported, citing Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and United Aircraft Corp. chief Alexei Federov.

Boeing is in talks to particpate in the later stages of the production process to make versions of the aircraft for U.S. customers, the Moscow-based newspaper said today.

Quite a few 124's are making their owners fortunes flying supplies to US Troops in OEF/OIF. I can see where they would like to have more. Heck, for that matter the old IL-76's are flying their wings off carrying cargo too.

Somewhere in my box of slides, I've got a picture of an IL-76 taken @ Abottsford back in the 80's during the airshow. It's in full AEROFLOT markings including civil regestration and it still had the armed tailgun position, don't cut that guy off in the pattern!!
