Intrepid San Diego reporter Ed Zieralski continues to follow the story of Bu No 19866... this time uncovering more details of the crew from surviving family members.

After 9 months, a new update...

A recovery attempt may be drawing near.

Wow, fantastic news! I really like the new direction that the Navy/NHC/NNAM is taking. It sounds like it will come up. I guess the son of the pilot that ditched it hasn't had the news broken to him that the Navy does not fly the airplanes in their collection:

“As a retired Marine, I have a deep understanding of the significance of these things to veterans and patriots of all generations,” said Richard Ansel Frazar of Texas, the pilot’s eldest child. “Wouldn’t it be amazing to watch it being pulled up, or to actually have it restored to flying condition, and I could sit in my father’s pilot seat and take the plane up?”

Two thumbs up!

It will be great for the NMNA to get a Helldiver!

I agree. After they pull the Helldiver up they really, really, really need to concentrate on those TBD's. It might even be too late for those, but at least they could make a replica from the gooey cardboard that used to be aluminum.

I believe Mark Sheppard (he posts here) figured out Debbie Boerio.

Something tells me that this recovery is going to be mobbed.

It will be a long slow process. There is a lot of mud to move out of the way.

Speaking of the Helldiver, word has it the NASM's Helldiver will be headed for Udvar Hazy before the end of the year.
