F-86 for Mike H. at Ellicot City Md

Mon May 24, 2010 8:03 pm

Another from the Col.

Hi All,

The Good Col. here stopped by the VFW in Ellicot City to get some shots of the H model they have.

As you can see it's in decent condition they have it fence off and it's off the ground. Not sure about the paint I think it's the 76 but not sure. The plane is gutted and there are few dings around the nose section and the leading edge of the right wing has a nice dent in it. Some surface Corrosion but nothing that can't be fixed. It does need to be washed.

Mike if you are reading this the F-86 that might be at Hyde Field in Clinton Maryland isn't there nor have they ever had a F-86 on the airport. I spoke with the Airport Manger who has been at the Airport for 35 Years.

nice looking bird. But I thought the H models all had 4 20's in the nose or is that 'creative license'?

The early F-86H Sabres were fitted with 6 .50 cal. guns. If this is an H model then this is a very rare aircraft I would think.

Thanx Keith!
One more thing to add to my compost heap of information-

Looks like 52-2044 had 6x.50s vs M39s too. I had previously thought all H models had 20s too, thanks for the education.

It looks to be an F-86H-1-NA by its serial number.
