The NORDEN bomb-sight being installed by Mrs. Patricia Royce AKA Patty Whack
Matthew Yarrison played a pivotal role in the mission...

Sure is nice to see it back in the bomber!

How is the landing gear issue going? Is it still giving you trouble?
Mon Jan 25, 2010 7:12 pm
The landing gear problem is squared away... knock on wood.
TR has a freshly rebuilt motor and clutch assembly and a new piece of key-stock and it has been three greens ever since!
As far as the Norden... Easy come... easy go...
It is back out because it was determined that the Lord Mounts were worn out. And I think there are a few odd spacers that look like short rivets that have to be replaced.
Chuck and the lads did some engine test runs this weekend and they think they have found a generator with some bad windings. It is making the radio put out a terrible amount of static.
Sometimes it is bearable and other times it is like ice-picks through the ears.
We have a spare generator ready to install so the hope is it will be cleaning up the comms.
We have also installed some spiffy new exhausts... the turbo cases have been cracking. Gives it sort of the glass pack feel! JUST KIDDING!!!

Don,
Are you running generators or alternators? If alternators, look for a bad diode or diodes in the rectifier. They will cause radio noise by letting AC voltage into the system. If generators, you most likely have the problem located.

When will TR be moved to Tomball, David Wayne Hooks?
It will be a sight to see her landing in her new home base at Hooks tomball jet.
Do you remember Dennis Mark? He is now my Father In-law.
Thanks,
chris

Finally something Bodacious to report!
From the Annals of PIMP MY BOMBER
Texas Raiders now has red horizontal and vertical stabilizers!

We hope to have the black triangles and the White Ls painted soon. But we may have 2-4 inches of global warming falling from the skies in our locality this week. As a result it will most likely be too cold to paint again for a wee bit longer.
SPANNER
PS--- Second Air Force, if you're still reading the thread... Craig Freeland got his first introduction to Kelley's Kountry Kookin' this weekend. Hopefully his cardiologist will release him for duty by next weekend. Love to Ellie!

Miss Ellen says "HI!" and I can't believe Craig hadn't sampled Kelley's until now.

I now have a hankering for a chicken fried steak..........
Good job on the bomber, Don. I sure hope all three Texas Forts get together this summer.

When will she be moved to Hooks Airport? March 6 or the 12. Kinda looking forward to working with the wing to get her and keep her where she belongs, IN THE "WILD BLUE YONDER".
If it were me I would fly her into Hooks the same weekend Collings is in town, March 12-15, just to hack them off.

lol

Rick,
I was thinking along the lines of IF WE AREN'T there by March 12th letting Nine-O-Nine park in our hangar.
I get the distinct impression that our new landlords haven't a freaking CLUE how big a B17 really and truly is.
They keep making noises like they can fit all the planes they have on the SW side of the hangar in WITH a B17.
Well call me Col. Skeptical!
I don't have any pictures BUT the black triangle is painted on TEXAS RAIDERS, the serial number and ship ID are painted and the only thing we have to add yet is the big white L.

I appreciate the offer Spanner, but with the schedule they run, it probably would be a lot of trouble taking it in and out for just a weekend, though we might take you up on it for the P-51 and Huey, especially if the weather is bad. Heck if the weather turns really bad we'd probably take you up on the offer for one of the big birds, after all !

Don,
I was just at the hanger taking measurements as thedoors were open all the way. It is going to be tight, I walked the width of our side alone and it was 76 footsteps wide. now we can try it with 909 if needed but i dont think witchcraft would be able to take cover if weather is bad. I am more worried about Witchcraft than 909, only TWO left in the world.
Just my observations. My foot measures 11 inches X 76 footsteps / 12 = 69.66 Feet wide.
Rick Sorry about the crude comment I made Feb 26 about hcking Collings Off by bringin' TR in that same weekend. I meant it as a joke. Once again I am sorry.
