Science Museum London 9th Feb 2009

A few shots from a visit to the Science Museum in London a couple of weeks ago. As always I made a bee line to the Flight Hall. Its a treasure trove of one of a kind and record breaking aircraft.

Always a favourite of mine since I went on a School trip in the 70s, to do the whole museum properly would take a couple of days

Did you find the lighting "challenging"?
I gave up trying to take usable pictures in the flight gallery as the lighting was awful!! I also found that the way they have displayed the engines bad too. Piled up in stands, floor to ceiling against the windows! Not only can't you get "Up close and personal" they end up silhouetted against the sky.

Its certainly interesting. I used a Gorilla wrapped around the walkway handrail to get steady shots. I agree about the lighting, its sometimes better to go after dark in winter.

I had a vision, there, of Nick wandering around with a gorilla whopping the annoying children in Nick's way in the museum.

As Nick's touched on (and shown in his great pics) the Science Museum is probably the second most important collection or truly historic original aircraft in the world after the Smithsonian - a sister science museum.

Thanks for the re-view!

Regards,

Very cool collection. Is that the original brown Vickers? Very cool.

Thanks Nick! They are resonably priced as well. A great idea.

Aren't these exhibits on the 6th floor (top floor) of the museum?
