Hi,

Well after almost 3 months of working on this in my spare time, here’s my completed Italeri 1/72 H-34.

I chose to model a USN UH-34G from HT-8 in the overall red-orange training scheme. I used the Cobra Company resin interior and the Eduard photo-etch detail set. Both were excellent and I highly recommend them. I also cut off the closed cockpit windows to display them in the open position and added some wiring for the hoist motor above the cabin door. I had the decals custom made at Fireball Modelworks (thanks Joseph!) and they turned out great.

Sorry for the poor photos.

Currently on the bench is a 1/72 Heller T-28 and the 1/72 Emhar F3H Demon and FJ-4B Fury. Hopefully I’ll have one of these completed soon.

-Derek

Very nice build. You did a very nice job on the canopy, nice and neat. I like your choice of paint scheme. It really makes a small kit "pop".

Nice chopper!

I've got that kit in my stash and it looks real nice.

I look forward to the T-28. That FJ-4 is probably the worst kit i've ever built but if you stick with it you can turn it into something nice.

Thanks guys for the kind words.

As for the T-28, I just got through removing and filling in the gun pod locations under the wings. I've also added some detail to the wheel wells with stretched sprue and wire. Yesterday I cut off the small scoop in front of the cockpit and filled it in.

I’m still not 100% sure of what color scheme I want to do. I’ve got the old Microscale sheet and also the Testors decals from their issue of the kit. At first I thought about the white/orange trainer scheme but masking off the white border around the national insignia gives me a headache just thinking about it. The drone controller scheme of engine gray/yellow/orange is neat but that’s a lot of masking on such a small bird. So I’ll probably chicken out and do the overall yellow ATU-800 bird. The Testors and Microscale sheets have the exact same ATU-800 marking but the cool thing is that the Testors sheet has the green wing and fuselage bands where as the Microscale sheet doesn’t…

Oh yeah, I know the Emhar Fury is a bear. It’s all your fault you know Al :) – your dusting photo of your Fury inspired me to tackle it. Especially when I bought the Xtradecal sheet with the exact same marking as your Fury! I do have an Aeroclub canopy, ejection seat, and metal landing gear on the way to help some with the details. What did you do about the front intake? I’ve got some brass tubing for the tail pipe but not sure what I want to do about the intake yet…

I was limited to time as I had to get mine done for a display at the Museum Of Flight. For the intake I just used a short length of ball point pen to extend it a little
