Back in 1964 there use to be 2 P-38s at an airport in Pomona, CA, in 1970 I landed at Blythe, CA and there were 4 or 5 F4Us there and in 2002 there was a Canberra in a hangar at Redding, CA, I think it came from Boise, ID as ther were 2 of them there several years before.

Most likely Brackett Field next to Pomona Fairgrounds. The two P-38s would then have been Jack Hardwick's N29Q and N79123. Both were all black and stored at said field. Are you sure about the date (1964) as N29Q went to Ed Maloney in 1959 and problably left Brackett shortly thereafter. Maloney apparently had the a/c flying by 1961.

Had to be 1964 as that's when I moved to West Covina and they were black, forgot that. Saw Ed's stuff out at Ontario then, covered with dust outside.

N29Q and N79123 then. Did you ever notice Stan Kurzet's P-51D Mustangs and F8F-2 at Brackett Field?

No, just the P-38s at the west end of the airport outside. Didn't go on it just drove by.

Good Day!
Tks for posting all those interesting shots of Blythe, Calif c. 1964. Any more details on the black p-38s will be welcome. A few saw some type of action in the Caribbean area and Nicaragua.

Aren't most of the Bob Bean Corsairs still extant?
