I find myself in need of your assistance once more guys.
I found this on the local former 8AF base yesterday, the part number (SY 15 7533 6) seems to be stamped in the same manner as other B-17 parts from the same site.
I've included a 6" steel rule for scale. Any ideas on what it is?

Thanks in advance,
PB

Perhaps part of an oxygen tank rack? What is the diameter of a standard 02 tank?

That's the lines I was thinking along when I saw it in the hedgebottom, it's very similar to the oxy bottle racks in the cockpit.
All the best,
PB

Could that color be a clue to it being from a B-24?

Just found this photo of Memphis Belle's cockpit racks pre-restoration:
http://aircraftwalkaround.hobbyvista.co ... lle_03.jpgIt looks to be the same as the racks on the right, even down to the rivet holes and the blue-grey paint.
All the best,
PB
