Heres my post from the ICAS board:
Hmmm,
I agree, another great show from the group at OQU.
The combined arms demo was missed but the show was filled in quite well.
The parking lot on the short runway had a bit of a wait to get into, we got into line just before Electric Boat, but all in all it was moving better than last year. (I think alot of people were planning for today) It took us 40 minutes from Route 4 to the parking area, watching the first jump, the tucker teaser, and Reese from the lot.
The sky was a bit funky all day. When we arrived the airport was 4000 broken with a patch of blue sky, all but the north was 800 overcast just a few miles away. Late morning the sky was clouding up again, the dark spots were moving in in the opposite direction of the wind. (typical New England) We did get sprinkled on a little bit but no real rain. As the afternoon progressed, it got better. Having the sun pop out was wonderful and it gradually opened up to blue sky, with a nuisance scud layer in the west keeping everybody doing a low show. (except for the blues announcer)
Heres my take,
The sight of S. D. Tucker almost pulling the airplane in the back of the Sherpa was pretty impressive. (during climb for flag jump)
Seeing Reese Dill flying aerobatics in his SNJ, knowing the AD was finished on Friday, Nice Job! (Keep Em Flying)
The Cargo drop from the J model on the approach to the short runway?
Ed Hamill, good show.
Ed Shipley, Great Show!
F-16 was off the ground by the 1000' markers, gear was up and stowed long before show center. Nice work, great vapor.
F-15, Was it me or did it seem that the end of the sharp turns look really bumpy? (Straight leg of the flat Good job, lots of vapor.
Heritage Flight, Very Cool! Lots of applause.
Lots of jumpers at once, different size chutes, doing different things, COOL!
Chuck Lischer, great performance as always.
Snow Birds, I havent seen them since Westover a while back. It was fantastic to see them again. Great Show!
What is up with the Goofy tow vehicle that is out on the runway for the Jet Truck? A hot rod 80 Cutlass? Come on! Although it is as impressive as always, I was wondering what was up with turning the truck towards the crowdline during the burner pops? (thrust towards the runway I guess) The kids loved it!
Then there was Frank Ryder, I love that airplane, the Laird Wannabe.
Mike Mancuso, once again great stuff.
SDT, You are the man! Not alot of wind so not alot of harrier stuff. The inverted harrier looked good. I thought it was the Centrifuge, not the what was it, "Tangerine Scream" or something. The live groaning was neat. Some of the Red Devils became members of the Pole Holders Union, I bet they loved that.
Mike Goulian has new music! Actually, not just new music but a big production soundtrack that actually fit into the show. I was thinking it was goofy at first, but then I realized, He had done it! He had the only aerobatic soundtrack that did not include that Lenny Kravitz song that was beaten to death through the sound system all day. and it was cool.
Speaking of big productions, the Advertising people got together with the sponsors for an all out attack on the crowd through the PA system.
Do the Announcers really like the Coffee Coolatta's, The Al Cerrone Escalade and the Neat Convertibles they were let use for the weekend. How about the Lobster Rolls. How about Discovery Channels pre recorded plugs of the Military Channel. And the Home Depot Sponsored Jet Truck.
Whats Next? Its like NASCAR, soon we will have the "Kelloggs Pop Tart Bain De Soleil Boeing F-15 Eagle Demo brought to you by Geico"
I guess it worked Cuz I remembered it all!
It will be sad to see another airshow spectacle go away when the Jato takeoff of Bert is no longer done. (I heard a rumor) Can we find a sponsor for that? I have seen that a dozen or so times and its great every one of them. Man does that thing get bounced around during the assault approach too!
Ok, Last but not least, The Blue Angels.
The new Solo takeoff is amazing, especially to see it at Quonset. (Best show line in the country)
after the 4 ship takeoff the two Solo Pilots roll together. At the center point the airplane on the LH side of thr runway pulls up hard and almost scrapes the tail on the runway. WOW! The other Solo pulls the gear and flys the length of the runway and pulls hard at the far end. Nice stuff!
For the 05 season they have changed a few things, It was good.
The announcer had called the next pass as the "Dirty Loop". No loop!, Low Show, Remember! Just a dirty pass.
Their show seemed short, the line at the porta potty was huge. and we had to go get in line in traffic. Wee boogied to the car and onto the access road. Out onto 95 in about 25 minutes. and into Boston for dinner.
BTW, On the way out I spotted the Kubelwagen, I had to take a few Pics.
Once again, Great Job!
See you Next Year!
