VA-52 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 19 (CVW-19) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14) for a deployment to Vietnam from 19 October 1966 to 29 May 1967. DESCRIPTION; A Douglas A-1H Skyraider is lifted from an U.S. old escort carrier onto a barge, on 1 January 1967. The A-1H was the former U.S. Navy BuNo. 135324, which was the last Skyraider operated by A-1 fleet readiness squadron VA-42 Green Pawns, in September 1963. Later it was obviously passed on to the U.S. Air Force for service in Vietnam, where this photo was probably taken. Most surviving Skyraiders were passed on to the South Vietnamese Air Force in the early 1970s. Several former U.S. escort carriers were used as aviation transport ships (AVT), to transport aircraft from the U.S. to Vietnam.
