Well I always knew she was a keeper but some of you here helped me confirm that. I sure am glad I don't have to be afraid of my wife. The honeymoon includes more than visiting POF. She knows it's something I truly enjoy and that's why we are going there. Now Friday night will be spent at a piano bar in Vegas which is something she wants to do.

All I have to say is the following:
1 - Congratulations!
2 - Planes of Fame is VERY different than it was even 5 years ago. For those who haven't been there in a while, but still venture an opinion about the quality of the facilities, please come visit us now. It's not the museum you may remember.
3 - For those who are making comments about women and aviation/museums/etc....My husband and I both wanted (and did) get married at Planes of Fame. So...unless you've met the lady in question and actually know what types of activities she enjoys....don't make assumptions!

Okay...this LADY will get off the soapbox now and get back to work!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW - for those who don't know, I'm a 15+ year volunteer at Planes of Fame, so yeah...some chicks do dig warbirds, museums, etc

BDK, As for the snakes, well I did not write that there were snakes at the airport, I wrote of vacant fields outside. And there is a tv program that I have seen about an emergency room doctor in Ca. who treats a lot of snake bites, including Mojave rattlesnakes. Maybe both the doctor and myself are wrong, and the whole state is like Ireland and snake free.

Anyway, if the lady is going to be hanging around airports and warbirds, it is time to start to toughen her up. When she comes to Osh or Sun N Fun, don't want her whining about the port a cans.

Never seen a snake in Mojave either, maybe they avoid me? I don't doubt that snakes exist in southern California, but I suspect they would be quite a pest around the dairy farms in Chino and would have been eradicated many many years ago.

The only guy I know that has been bitten by a rattler was handling a pet in Texas or some godforesaken place like that.

Hard to find cleaner outhouses than at OSH!

You are right. I don't have a clue. Just a little bit of joking going on... (hard to relay that in text).
And I am sure that Planes of Fame is outstanding! Would love to go there myself someday.

All I am qualified to really say is that on my Honeymoon, I had other things on my mind besides warbirds.

And regarding "chicks" who dig warbirds... Outstanding! Wish my wife had more of a love for it.

Cindy, pardon me, I now know that Chino and POF is the garden spot of the west. I expect to see it featured on the cover of Brides magazine soon, and Oprah will probably be giving each person in her audience a free honeymoon there. Hopefully if Chino cannot accommodate the demand of thousands of brides there, CAF/Midland will be able to. Same snakes, but better Bar B Q.

In case you have not figured it out, I was trying to offer a little real advice as well as mostly humor. Seems as if one of us lacks something in that department, don't know if it is my writing or the way you read it or both. Everything does not have to be deadly serious and us vs them, black or white.

It was at a P of F show over 25 years ago that I first saw a Spitfire fly as well as a Mustang and a Zero and got hooked on warbirds.
The essence of the place is Ed preserving all those great planes, and Steve and John and the guys that fly them, not any restroom or even restaurant.

I know many of the comments made were in jest. But, I can be a cranky ol' hag - kinda like an old radial that hasn't been run in a while! Sometimes I get a bit annoyed at all the folks who assume women don't like warbirds. And of course, I'm very protective of my favorite museum
Seriously though....if you get the chance, you should come out and visit - it's far different from what you remember!
Now....lets all raise our glasses, have a few drinks and go back to playing nice

Cindy is right, POF has changed markedly within the past 5 years, very much for the better in terms of comfortable and pleasant facilities. I try to get there a few times per year.

That said, it has not changed into anything that my wife would willingly get within 20 miles of. Ladies vary, obviously! If the very words "airplane museum" don't send your lady screaming for the hills, chances are she'll like it just fine.

As for Flo's -- eating there is a memory that certainly will linger for a long time. And not just the memory.

Back in 1993 I drove to Chino from Port Hueneme, and my first impression of Chino was the smell from the cattle. It was in July and my rental car was not air conditioned. After I overcame the odor, the visit was great. I need to get back there soon. I passed through the area last March, but after sitting in the car while I ambled through the Mojave Airport, the wife wasn't in the mood for more airplanes quite so soon.

Matter of fact if you are coming from Vegas, you can pass right by Edwards and Palmdale on your way down to Chino.

Man, I'm sure glad you aren't my navigator...

Vegas to Chino is: 15 to the 60 & then a left at the Euclid exit.

Crimedale is on the 14.....

To get to Edwards from the 15 you take the 58 West from Barstow..... It's 100 miles from Barstow to Crimedale via Mojave/Edwards

If my back yard is anything to go by, I'd say some bugger rounded em up & shipped them to Antelope Valley. Nothing quite like opening the front door & finding a rattler having a snooze on the welcome mat.

wwrw2007... Thanks for bringing this up. I'll be in Vegas this spring and I had no idea Chino was so close. I talked it over with my fiance yesterday and she is ok with making the trek out there. last time i was in Vegas I looked up directions to the POF facility in AZ and saw it was too far away for a day trip. It never occured to me that Chino would be closer.

Was just there with my fiancee in October...(she loved Flo's by the way). We're originally from Iowa and Flo's reminded her of home.



We're also honeymooning in Vegas in June...at one of the new CityCenter hotels. Although, probably not venturing far from the Strip (or hotel) , unless it's to IN-N-OUT burger.
