I've met Hoot Gibson and Curt Brown at Reno. I crew an L-29 in the Jet Class and had to work with Curt extensively. Both guys are class acts, both shuttle pilots.

From the report:

"The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this incident as follows:

The pilot's inadequate compensation for wind conditions that resulted in his failure to maintain directional control during landing roll. A factor was gusting tailwinds."

Ha! That wouldn't have been a factor if he'd have landed into the wind

Back on topic, some of you may be aware of the teapot-tempest that brewed this week over an apparel manufacturer's use of the president's image to advertise its jackets on a Times Square billboard. This raises much the same right-of-publicity issues as the Yeager suits, and has gotten a lot more press attention. Tis a slippery slope. Did Mr Washington or his family get paid for or endorse that one District using his name, or his image being liberally (or is that libelously) printing on currency or minted on coinage or large statues carved of him? Where is the line between a public persona and a privacy rights. I am all for folks who have made history trying to cash in on their part by selling their story, or endorsements, but to ban others from mentioning history because it has their name or likeness unless they pay for it, at some point, crosses the line.
