I had heard that there is a Panther getting close to done in Chino - They were looking for a good engine about a year ago. Thats what I want to see!

POF is not working on theirs that I have seen, it is a static. Yanks has one they have just repainted which is also a static, but I don't think it is in the restoration queue for any mechanical work. Yanks might be looking for a rebuildable engine for the future, not that they would be likely to fly it. Knowing how hard it is to find someone qualified to overhaul one, it might make sense to get it done sooner rather than later.warbird1 wrote:I haven't heard of the Panther being restored to fly. Is this the POF's? I didn't know any restoration work had already begun on this. BDK, can you set the record straight?

She's been ready to fly for about 6 months now following a restoration started in 1987 (the year I was born! ). Just one little thing after another holding her back.
Once we get warmer weather in Tillsonburg (and the test pilot is available), she'll be back in the air for the first time since 1946!

A local cropduster (yes, we have those up here too!), who has flown many different types for many, many years, has agreed to do the test flying. Not sure if he has much time, if any, in Yales, though.EDowning wrote:Who are you planning to use for a test pilot? I would imagine that there are pilots with Yale experience in Hamilton, but one never knows for sure. I have had mine for 10 years and learned to fly tailwheel in it. Great flying airplane but plenty of quirks that demand special attention.
