I'm a newby here. Just curious what constitutes vintage vs antique on here?

I have a 1946 J-3 Cub and 1946 Globe Swift. Thought I'd look around here and see what's going on. I used to fly warbirds 20+ years ago. I mostly fly civilian light stuff now.

Nice SWIFT! How original is it? Pix of your CUB?
Welcome my friend to the asylum we all like to call WIX-we're fairly harmless but can and do turn on each other and swear to 'never deal with that guy again' until his or her next post that gets our interest.
Strap in like Larry Mac tells DW 'pull them belts tight one more time' and enjoy the verbal aerobatic show presented here sometimes with smoke on for not much more investment than your time

Welcome.....not alot of us here who fly the antiques/classics but we all have a good time nonetheless. Just as long as we don't start calling the 1959 Cessna 150's "vintage" I am good

Thanks for the info and comments. The Swift, like most, has a few mods. Engine is O-300A rather than original C-125 from factory. One piece windshield and P-51 style gear doors are the most visible mods. Dual gear lights, trim relocated between seats, battery relocated behind seats, electric back up fuel pump, etc are not so visible mods.

The Cub is a project which is finished though color. Needs final assembly. I am hoping it will fly in 2010 for the first time since 1969.

I grew up in a flying family. My dad was heavily involved with both Antique Airplane Association and EAA. My was also a pilot. Dad built three Pitts Specials over the years and for seveal years had a matched his and hers pair they flew around the country.

Below is a link to a picture of my Cub project. (EDIT: I had posted, but the photo was way to large to display well). My brother and I share a hangar and he has a flying Cub I can fly any time I wish, so I tend not to be motivated to work opting to fly instead! The Starduster behind the Cub, if all goes according to plan, will belong to a buyer in Texas next week......gotta make room for the PT-26 my brother just bought.

The Cub may be seen here: http://home.comcast.net/~jimrice85/DSCN2379.JPG

Below is my personal "Aviation Webpage" which I need to update......maybe over the holidays.
http://home.comcast.net/~jimrice85/planepage.htm

This is my photo storage page....no captions to make sense of what you see though.

OK...you or your dad are obviously from MO at one time. This is ZGC-7 C/N 4555 NC17711 when the Baker Bros. of Mexico, MO owned it. Recovered in these colors (Razorback no less) in 1983. Was a nice ship and the Bakers were good eggs. But that plane rarely left that area of MO for the 30 years or so they owned it so this pic must be in MO and perhaps late 80's! Unique engine conversion to the Lycoming 300HP with essentially V77 FWF. A fellow in Northern OH started the conversion and another guy in IA flew the 4 years off it to get the one time STC and a Standard Airworthiness. Poor ship has had a run of bad luck the past 8 or 9 years.

Yes, I'm originally from Missouri. That is the Baker's old airplane. I accompanied my dad to Mexico, MO to disassemble that plane a couple of weeks before leaving for USMA in late June 1981. Several months later, it was delivered to my dad's shop near Kennett, MO. Dad restored it over then next several months. It was yellow previously, but the Baker's had dad restore it in the red/maroon/gold. Yes, it certainly was done in Razorback fiberglass and Randolph dope. Each year thereafter, they would bring it down for dad to inspect/annual. Sadly, that is about the only flying it did each year.

Thanks for letting me know. I had wondered where it ended up. I'd sure liked to have flown it but never got the chance.

The airplane is currently at Waco Classic in Battle Creek, MI being restored/repaired. The plane was put on its back this past June enroute to the 50th National Waco Club gathering. Your last poster...WHEELSUP...is intimately familiar with the C-7 Model Waco.

I flew with a museum in Oklahoma for awhile. I spent a couple of years flying right seat on a B-25J. Most my other time was in trainers and L-birds. I spent one airshow season flying a BT-13 and Stearman. Other stuff was on occasional flight in PT-23, PT-26, T-6, T-28, UC-78, C-45 and several different L-birds with exception of L-19. I have two buddies with L-19s now, I guess I ought to hit one of them up to go flying sometime.

I had a chance to fly a TBF once, but I chickened out. I was a 2nd Lieutenant at the time and knew if I bent it, I could never afford to pay for it. I wish now I had. Oh well..........
