I just thought there may be a few people on WIX that would like to know that "Corsairs Over Connecticut" will happen again this coming year at Igor Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Stratford, CT.

The Discovery Science Museum is sponsoring the event and the actual full title is:
"Wings & Wheels: Corsairs Over Connecticut"
and it will take place on Memorial Day Weekend, May 29 & 30, 2010.

The Discovery Museum (http://www.discoverymuseum.org) has been sponsoring a one day "Wings & Wheels" event as part of an airport open house. They saw the potential of a larger event, so if this coming year is successful, there will be a show every year with a specific theme.

"Corsairs Over Connecticut" was chosen as the first theme because if the success of the 2005 show and the fact that it has been five years since the last one and it will now be the 70th Anniversary of the first flight of the prototype Corsair.

At this point in time we plan to have five Corsairs attend the event. If we find other sponsors, we may be able to bring in more.

The show will not be as "Corsair" specific as the 2005 show. The wheels part of the event will be just short of a "con cours" style show with some very unique and incredible vehicles and autos on display. The Black Horse Garage is sponsoring the "Wheels" part of the event. You can see some of the type of vehicles that will be attending at their website (http://www.blackhorsegarage.com). They will also have a full blown car show on Monday, May 31 right on the ramp, but most of the aircraft will have departed by then.

There will also be a lot more science and activities geared towards families and children, with the emphasis on discovery. The show will also be on a different portion of the airport. This change allows for a greater number of cars to be parked and more ramp space for displays.

Along with the five Corsairs will be the DAV sponsored B-25 "Panchito", the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundations C-54 "The Spirit of Freedom", a Sikorsky Black Hawk and about 20 other military, antique and warbird aircraft.

The event website is not ready yet, but I will publish it as soon as it's up and the press release is sent out.

I just thought some here might like the heads up!

I hope to see some of you there!
Blue skies,
Jerry

Sounds like a good event Jerry. I enjoyed the 2005 one; this time my kid will be old enough to go. Please keep us posted.

Matt;
Awesome!
Are you gonna fit your WWII Clarktor tug in the Comanche and bring it out for us to use?

Bill said something about getting a C-47 or something like that to bring the Clarktor 6. But he was worried about how much gas we could carry.

We'll see what happens... Flying 640 nm sounds so much better than driving 860. But then again, the tug won't fit in the Comanche. Not with me AND Bill, anyway...

Who knows, maybe the Rocket will be back up by then....

5 Corsairs???? WOW!!!!! And with all the rest going on... it's going to be a jam packed weekend!

Chris,
Maybe we can make you in charge of keeping all the guys from WIX away from the general public!

Actually, I'm working on a couple of things that might be special those from WIX who attend!

Hmmm,
Sounds like a good stopover on the way home from Jones Beach.

Which show will Skyboss be at?

Unless something comes up to change plans, which happens from time to time, Skyboss will be at both shows. The plan is to fly Jones Beach then recover at Stratford for the afternoon.

Jerry,

Is there any way to set up some kind of ground transport arrangement to/from the show to the Bridgeport/Port Jeff ferry terminal? Back in 1997 BDR had a full blown airshow and had such an arrangement. I left my car at Pt Jeff, spent the $14 walk on fee and enjoyed the ride over. When I got to CT there was a city bus that went back and forth and they charged I think 75c a person. People used it as the bus was pretty filled up! The show was advertised on Long Island and people were invited to use the ferry, and they did. Doing something like this would probably increase your attendence and decrease the parking headache.

Besides, when you log on to the science museum's website the first thing you see is the "sustainable" Christmas tree. I can't think of a better way to go "green" than to get some people to leave their cars at home?

Hhmmm.....whats the carbon footprint of a bunch of muscle cars and led burnin warbirds?

Pete

That's a good idea and we'll look into it.
At this point we don't plan on lots of advertising on L.I. especially considering that the Jones Beach Show is the same weekend. They have a bigger war chest than we do.
I'll keep you posted...but let's not talk about the carbon footprint! :)
