I see some NAS Brunswick and some Owlshead Transpotration Museum, a Portland Jetport, a Waterville Airport and Where is the B-25?

Col. Rohr,

Mind if I ask, where did you get the photo of the B-25 ? The last time I saw that particular one was several years ago, parked at the Beaver County Airport. If memory serves me correctly, it had engine problems and it was up for sale at the time. I has subsequently dissapeared. Was wondering if anyone knew what became of it.

I'm pretty sure the B-25 "Tondelayo" now part of the Collins Foundation is based at Ellington Field in Houston/Clear lake, Texas when not on tour along with a few other Collins Foundation planes. I'm not sure what else they have because I have never been in or even seen their facility.

As a follow up to all this I did see this B-25 at Tom Reilly's shop in Kissimmee during the Summer of 2001. I thought I had seen it tied down for several months at Houston Hobby prior to my visit to Tom Reilly's. They confirmed that it was the same plane. It went to California shortly after that for the finish and paint work as described in an earlier posting.

Yes the B-25 is usually based at Ellington here in Houston with a few others. I'm also not sure why Reilly's shop told you that it was the same airplane because as far as I know, she hasn't been to his shop in probably 20 years.

In 2001 the B-25 was also not repainted yet into Tondelayo. She was still a very very faded pink and had the noseart of "Hoosier Honey" just like in Rob's pic from up above. She didn't recieve the Tondelayo paint job until 2002. This was also done by AvSource West out in Midland, TX. She left in January of '02 from Hobby for Carl Scholl's shop at Chino for work. The paint in Midland was on her way home from California. If I remember right, the first time she went to Florida since she first came to Texas many years ago was when she left to go join the '17 and '24.

Also, down here at Ellington we have several planes. Those are the F-4, TA-4J, T-33, Huey, and Tracker. There are also 4 Mig-21s on the field along with, I believe, 6 L-39s now. There is also a Mig-17 and 3 Stearmans. Its a pretty exciting place.

The shot of the C-1 also has Tallichet’s B-24 in the background. Do you have a date on that shot?

Which leads me to ask a question to see if anyone can tell me which B-24 I saw.
I was just above West Point, NY in Cold Spring; I think it was Late May of 1989 (I really don’t think it was 1990, I can check the date later). I saw a B-24 fly up the Hudson River Valley, Maybe 1,000 ft above the river heading north. I always assumed that it was The Collings Foundations B-24 but now I question that. I was just in shock that it was a B-24; it was the first time I had seen one. Of coarse, NO CAMERA on hand. :cry:

Any ideas? :?:

I was told that Gary Velasco did the nose art of Tondelayo and he had to do it outside of 100+ degree heat because they didn't want to put it in a hanger. Because of this the paint dried unevenly and even on the brush before it was applied. I know how hot our gets out in the sun (like fry an egg hot) and can't imagine painting it in those conditions.

That hurts I couldn't get any pictures but I saw her fly and what a "first B-24 sighting". So I won't complain

Gary did have to do the noseart in 100 degree heat. Apparently is was also pretty humid as well. I don't know about the not wanting to put her in a hanger part. If he had done it here in Houston we could've at least nosed her into one of the hangers for him.

Tondelayo did turn out kind of crinkly. It looks good from a distance, and even from 10 feet away, but inside of that range you can see her wrinkles. It gives Heddy some age thats all.

Checked some photos of that time, I took a trip from the sound to Albany in a boat my Aunt bought.It was a fun time for the most part. I missed phoos of an OV-10 that flew over head and the B-24. But I got a few shots of a CH-53, it must have been going slow enough.

BUT anyway. It was 1990. Hopefully someday I can see that B-24 take to the air again.

N6788 SN 136788 the World famous COD, With not only D.T.'s B-24 on the right but D.T.'s B-25 tail on the left. Behind the B-25 the small airplane was Dean Martins Mig-21, he arrived at Bedford and hit the chute. It was not properly attached to the airplane and it fell out on the runway and the airplane kept going. WOOHOO! at least 4 sets of chord showing on both mains after that.

Tondelayo in Pink!

Who's T-28? Bob's B.? OHTM?

Hairy Hank Moretti He did not fly at Quonset this past weekend, AD!

C-54 on the back lot at LWM, What is the story with it now?
B-17 same place, Note the cowlings removed, Is that the second or third engine on the wing in that shot? (1st replacement made more metal that the old one)

3 that I dont know but at least one is at Owls head

Nate Mayo's Waco, I hear the P-26 Peashooter he is building will be spectacular. This was at fitchburg (FIT) Right? Theres Reese Dills T-6 in back of the Waco. The Stearman I dont know. What is the wing in the right of the pic?

This posting is mostly to Ryan...thanks for straightening me out on "Hoosier Honey" at Tom Reilly's. You correct. There was a B-25 there at the time but here again after all this I don't remember which one IT was...I can't believe that I got that confused. I guess my gray matter is getting grayer. Maybe I'll run into you at Ellington someday.

The B-25 that you probably saw at Reilly's place is "Killer Bee". This airplane is also in a desert camo but it also has a green overlay. Our airplane was just tan with the blue bottom with red cowl rings.

Come out to Ellington anytime. The B-25 is in Florida right now and the F-4 is in Memphis but the TA-4, Huey, T-33, and Tracker are all there.
