Great update, Scott.

That photo of 42-102829 prompts me to ask a question--does anyone on the forum have a "master list" or any leads to the identification schemes used by Third Air Force? A few of us have been looking for a 2AF code order for years and we're delving into the 3rd also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the nice plug for our Chuckie group. I spent the better part of Sunday comparing our radio room with wartime photos of Mickey ships that Paul Bellamy generously provided us. All the holes line up with where the H2X equipment went, further confirming that '543 was a standard PFF airplane when delivered to the AAF.

That pic of Fuddy Duddy reminds me, I am tying to figure out if Elmer Fudd in the Vintage pics is wearing aviators sunglasses or what?!? He is different from the "New" nose art. Any one have any clearer pics than these ones linked?

Awesome update Scott! That was well worth reading. I did not know that Brad Pitt was such a B-17 fanatic! Hahaha! Great picture!

One question - on this picture:

Do you know any more of the circumstances of why those airplanes were assembled there at the base of the Eiffel tower? Did the French do it or us? I've been to the Eiffel tower, and I know there is nowhere nearby to land any airplanes. Of course, back in '45, there were probably fields nearby that could be used as a landing strip. Do you know if those planes were flown there or shipped in? Did any of those planes fly again, or were they scrapped there on site?

Awesome pix, those intrigue me!
