On April 21st 1962, an F-102 from Paine AFB crashed in Mountlake Terrace about 45 seconds after participating in a three ship flyover of the Seattle Century 21 Worlds Fair.
You might not recall because you were about 7, we were @ the Air Fair @ KPAE when the two SNOWBIRDS bumped into each other while forming up for their opening inbound pass from Puget Sound. Both got out but both birds into a very deep part of Puget Sound.
Out on Hwy 530 near Oso back in late Oct. of 1959, BRANIFFs first 707 crashed klling 4 of the 8 aboard and the crash site is a pretty easy walk from an abandoned manufacturing building. I remember as a kid seeing news reports of a hunter who stumbled upon a P-39 crash out in the Cascades (this was 1960-62 time frame) the guy brought back part of the aircraft to prove his claim, but I never did hear if they ever found the crash site again. And there are still a few missing aircraft both private and military out in the Cascades and Olympic mountains.
