This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I was curious to know what warbirds are working in the civilian market ... ie....the TBMs in NB and the S2s in BC Canada as water bombers.
are there still WWII aircraft working? what about any jets?
Cheers

Martin Mars.
Plenty of T-6/SNJ/Harvards still working as advanced trainers to get onto heavier metal, and the same applies to many lighter trainers.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircraft are still RAF owned and operated, thus 'working' - albeit not in the original role!

...a plane in a museum that flies is technically working...ie maintaining itself by paying for its room and board.

Jerry,
not as many as you may think. We operated DC-3's untill recently, but no market here. i dont know of one that is currently working in the US at the moment on domestic freight. we were in the auto and on demand freight game and basically it all just dried up.The ones in Florida are i believe all island bound, maybe others can correct me. I do know my dads have been sitting a loooong time.

There are some C-45's still hauling freight, and a fair number of de Havilland Beavers in Alaska that were once warbirds, haul hunters, supplies, fish, etc.

How about aerial firefighting?
- Neptune Aviation operates P2V Neptunes.
- Aero Union operates P-3 Orions.
- Coulson Flying Tankers operates the two remaining Martin Mars flying boats.
I'm sure there are others, too.

With regards to Ice Pilots and Buffalo Airways, I heard somewhere that either one of their C-46s or one of the C-47s is a combat vet.
