Are the dates set for the 2010 Reno Air Races? My cousin has set her wedding for September 25. I am worried I may need to tell her I can't make it...

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

You are fine, and yes they are set for Sept 15 - Sept 19.

You can always check the official site for more info:

Thanks for the tip.

If anyone has any tips for Reno (hotels, taking in the event, etc) they would be very much appreciated.

Mike

Mike:

I stay at the Sands Regency Hotel and Casino. Its 2 blocks behind the Silver Legacy. Rooms are about the cheapest in town. (last year might have been $30 a night) and its a DECENT (not exceptional) place......

Mike,

Myself, the wife and about a dozen of our friends also stay at the Sands. It's about a two block easy walk to the main strip from there, which is good for the value during that weekend. Prices aren't too bad until the actual Friday and Saturday dates, they sky rocket everywhere. Many of the hotels require a 3-day booking for that weekend.

I can vouch for the Sands as well. It's probably about the best compromise between cheap price and decent rooms. It's kind of old and dumpy, but not bad. It's not like you're going on vacation and want to stay at a 4 star hotel anyways. If you're like most people, you will spend most of your time away from the hotel and only go back there to sleep for the night. It's really not bad, and relatively clean, but you get what you pay for. If you want something really nice, you will have to fork out maybe twice as much money for one of the nice casinos on Virginia Street, like the Silver Legacy, Circus Circus, etc.

The ABSOLUTE most important thing is to make your rental car reservation EARLY. If you wait until you show up, I've seen the markup on the rental cars go up as much as 1000% - no kidding!

I don't believe that has happened in many years, since the early 90's. I know that there was a company that had a live internet "pay per view" stream available for this year's races. I didn't use it, but supposedly it worked pretty well and most people I know who used the service thought it was well worth the price.

The easiest way to remember when it starts is this, qualifying always starts the Monday after Labor Day. To really take it all in, you need to spend the entire week at Reno.
