unless the pics & video were taken after a pressure wash, i'd say it looks pretty good!! if it's before spraying, i'd say that's even better!! congrats to the salvage team!!

I am always amazed at the condition of those birds after 60+ years in the lake. Besides, there ain't a bunch of He!!cats out there and one that's a combat vet to boot!

All F6F-3s and quite a few of the first F6F-5s had those windows aft of the canopy.

It is an early version Hellcat, which makes it that much rarer. Just saw a brief clip on the ""Today Show" very cool, especially since the pilot safely EJECTED.

A newspaper report yesterday claimed this is the SIXTH Hellcat pulled from the lake this year..... :D Don't we all wish there were six F6F projects out there...

My thoughts are that this one is going to be restored and displayed in the NMNA in Pensacola, and by doing that one of the other Hellcats may either move to another museum, or become a flyer.

Both news reports I watched last night said it was going to Pensacola.

UGH!!! I flew into Chicago yesterday and it didn't even dawn on me that i was the day she was being raised! Good to see her "in the air" even if it wasn't under her own power.

According to Hunter Brawley (Elcock's Grandson) the plane is now in Pensacola (or at least in transit). The right wing was lost in the accident...but as for the left...who knows. Something I found interesting was the canopy. Hunter says in 1995 the canopy was still in place...but it wasn't there yesterday. You can tell by the "weathering" around the cockpit. Pretty cool stuff.
