In reading WIX, it seems less interesting than it used to. I find I can glance through the several categories of interest and usually be done in 10 min.

Is it just that there are some few deep discussions of anything of real substance?

Maybe that is part of it, but then on second thought I realized that Gary is not here.

He used to have so many posts that mattered to most of us, and even if small race planes were not our first interest, ( and I promise you that snakes are not mine, nor even cats) he had humor in so much of what he wrote that it brought me a smile, as I am sure it did others.

I am not sure I even know who is in his old maintenance position at CAF.

Big shoes to fill.

A nice thread on the Spit coming together would be a plus. :!:

I know I have been lurking lately. Jack you are right, a nice spitfire rebuild thread would help. I was certinly looking foreward to many posts on a F-105 restoration and a One-o-wonder move and the ever amusing antics of whats next with "stratolina". Still cant get past it yet.

Gary's loss is a huge vacancy to fill here on WIX. Who is the next poster who is willing to take a stab at it? Is it you, Bill? :D

.

I think the postings in the WIX Hangar have been down for some time, and not just due to Gary's departure.

While Jack Cook may not be posting photos are often as he did prior to his house fire, and migace is no longer posting consecutive one liners full of links, I personally think the decline on the WIX Hangar is directly proportional to the activity on the Maintenance HangEr, and while not rejecting that second forum, it does seem to be carrying many interesting threads that would have previously been included in the WIX Hangar.

I'm not sure what caused the creation of the Maintenance HangEr, I see it commenced @ October 2007, however I only noticed it in the last few months, previously Vintage Aviation was the next down the list, which I also occasionally view, but not on a daily basis.

I personally still keep forgetting to check the Maintenance HangEr each day, (despite how interesting it is) and I suspect there are posters on there who rarely post in the WIX hangar any more these days.

I find both interesting, and if both are seen together I think WIX is still as popular and interesting to read.

regards

Mark Pilkington

Well, several of the more interesting posters haven't posted anything in a while. Also, I think some of the folks who are actually involved with various warbirds around the country got burned by wannabees being rude here - not that most posters really fit into that category. Also, real life happens. I know I started checking in less and less here when I finally got my CFI ticket. Now I'm trying to just check in once a day or so.

Well...one of the "things" that was badly missing was you Bill...good to have ya back!

Like so many others...life gets in the way far too often these days. When I have a spare minute or two, I love coming in here to read what is going on with Bald Eagle Aviation (Rich/51fixer), then on to see what mudwater Chris has sturred up with the comings and goings of the NMUSAF(give 'em Hellen buddy!)...nice for lollygagging around until it is time to return to the real world :Hangman:

Typically the traffic tends to be less in the summer months. The exception is airshow pictures which increases somewhat. During the winter months traffic increases as we all search for our elusive warbird fix. Also some of the members of this forum have been outstanding contributors but have been hounded by the small percentage of unruly participants. Most of these contributors have become lurkers or left the forum all together. Hopefully they will return to active status someday. We are trying to provide upgrades to improve the forums and the site as a whole. The forum upgrades include a whole new toolbox for managing accounts and permissions so hopefully it will be easier to control the trolls.

As for the maintenance section, it was originally made to keep the maintenance topics together, with the new software we can make sub-forums and I might move them into a subforum on the WIX Hanger

I haven't posted in a long while for various reasons, but it's very good to see Bill posting here again; conversely it's been heartbreaking to read the news about Gary. I lost a great colleague and friend from the aviation world through heart disease earlier this year and he and Gary were the best kind of people for whom I had the utmost respect.

But I lurk occasionally and enjoy reading the news and gossip from the USA.

Yeah! I'll second that idea! How 'bout it, Bill? I know it's going to be a long, slow process, but many of us would love to see that sweet ride coming back together! :D

RetoAviation Maintenance HANGAR or HANGER? Will we get it spelled right this time? Don't really matter just keep the restoration threads coming.
