Page 29 - US-2C Target tug - Why the offset weapon/target bay?

Page 42 - Does the star on the intake splitter plate of F-4 '699' mean that it is a Mig Killer?

Page 58 - What are the "balls" under the Skyraider?

Page 63 - The RAF C-130 with the black undersides - normal markings for the time or something a bit more nefarious?

Yes, F-4C 63-7699 (Bakke/Lambert ) shot down a MIG-17 in May 14th 1967 and now is on display at Midland Air Museum in Coventry England.

That is a great site, great find!!!
Too bad more of the photos were not in color.

Ztex posted a picture of a T-39 Sabreliner
sporting the FAA colors and N#, N88.
Makes you think, why is the FAA at an
airport/airbase in Japan during the late
1960's and 1970's.
They sure can't be checking up on the
military maint. ground crews?
Any Ideas?

Great thread of pictures, thanks for sharing the site.
Very cool to see the activity at an airbase during the
highest point during the airwar in Vietnam, and early
Cold War activities.
Makes you wounder if any of these pics were seen by
the "REDS" of the time, it would have made for alot of
good intell.
I served in the Army and when I was stationed in Korea
1986, I was performing a train/cargo escort security
mission with the 260th MP Company.
When my mission was done I would catch a ride on a C-130
back to Tague.
While waiting for my "ride" at the AirForce terminal I wondered
around and saw a U-2 "Dragonlady" recon aircraft prepping
for a flight (they had crews etc. working on it), I took my
camera out and started snapping pictures, at a distance of
maybe 30 to 50 yards.
Here I am carrying a M-16 and Colt 1911-45 with my "MP"
armband/brassard, and some guy runs up in a Airforce
uniform and tells me I can't take any pictures...
Don't figure with all the pics I've just viewed from this base
in Japan.
