At Airsho '09 in Midland this year, there was a crew shooting video. They were shooting over, around, and in the B-17 Sentimental Journey. Then they came over to the B-25 Yellow Rose. We were being nice to them, showing them around and being interviewed, but nobody thought to ask what the show was about. I finally asked the boom camera operator what it was about.

The working title is "WarBikes", but they are thinking of changing it to something more aviation related. They were shooting pilot shows (no pun intended), in hopes of selling them to a cable network. It's a guy who builds custom motorcycles, and is patterning them after planes. He's already built one inspired by the P-51 "Gunfighter". The next will be modeled after the B-17 "Sentimental Journey", and the third will be based on the B-25 "Yellow Rose"! I can't wait to see the show. I just wonder what they are going to do with the bikes? It would be nice if they would donate them to the aircraft to auction off as a fund raiser.

The company building the motorcycles is Knockout Motorcycles The designer/owner is also a pilot with US Airways. It looks like they have changed the name to Warbirds Recommissioned:

Enough of the motorcycles already! How about a cable reality show about warbird restorations? Something like "This Old Airplane" or "Hangartime".

I mean, gee-whiz! They already did a show about tank overhauls for goodness sake; how common is that compared to warbirds?

BK,

Thanks for finding that link! That's the show that was doing production at Airsho '09, shooting the B-17 Sentimental Journey and B-25 Yellow Rose! I'll pass that link on to the squadron members so they can see what it's about.

How about a new one in the same vein as "Monster Quest"? They could call it "Warbird Quest". They could go out in the jungles and obscure places of the earth to search out rumors of "extinct" or non-existent airplanes. They could relate eye-witness reports of seeing these extinct airplanes and do forensic sheet metal analysis to try to prove the existence of them. Maybe they could show videos and pictures of these planes from far away and very blurry so you can't see any of the details.

What fun! :)

Rich, I think you are on to something, but then again, it would sure take a long time to get just one show produced. By the time the months and years were edited down to a few hours, nobody would appreciate the tons of work that go into a quality restoration. But it is a good concept!

Anybody got anything on the blonde on that "Warbirds Recommissioned" main pic?

Unfortunately she wasn't at the Airsho shoot. If she had been, I would have been glad to give her a hand getting up into the Yellow Rose cockpit!

:D  :D

In past threads, Gary said he talked to producers at Discovery? about the possibility of making a reality show in the same vein as "American Choppers", except about restoring W.W.II aircraft. He said he even offered to throw around some chairs and act angry like Paul Teutul Sr., but the producers nixed the idea.

Would have been a great show, though!

Wow, thanks for that link. I remember reading about the filming of that series about a year ago here and thinking whatever happened to it. It looks like it's on the Canadian version of the History Channel. Anybody know if it will be shown here in the United States?

They don't shopw much history related on that channel. It is sorta one of those ironic names- like calling a fat guy "Slim", or a tall guy "Shorty" You know The "History" Channel- now with fat broads, bikes and truckers on ice!

Robbie
Who used to enjoy the Flying Channel, now the Military Channel, but above the channel range he is willing to pay for!
