My brother and I are thinking of searching for the wreck site of a B-24 in New Hampshire. Years ago he stumbled across another B-24 wreck site while hiking.

Accident Report.com lists the serial number of a B-24H as 42-5111 flown by Marvin Rupp, KIFA. Unfortunately Joe Baugher's site shows 42-5111 as one of a lot of B-17s and was scrapped at Altus, OK post war. I have looked at 42-50111 and various iterations of 42-X5111 and can't find a B-24 with a version of that number.

Any other ideas without getting expensive?

I think you are looking for B-24H-25-DT 42-51111 lost on April 24, 1944 in NH.

There's no mention of it on Baugher's site, but on accident-report.com as you said lists the date as April 24.

All I could find was this: http://www.usaafdata.com/surnameslist?o ... me_value=u

Sgt Lloyd E Utley is shown as being killed on April 24, 1944 in B-24H 42-51111, with no other details, so I'm guessing this is the one.

Other than that, I couldn't find anything.

Hope this helps.

edit: 2nd Lt. Marvin Rupp is shown as being killed on the same date in 42-51111, so..... problem solved. Now on to finding the details. 8)

You beat me to it.

A detailed summary of this accident can be found on
page 764 of Volume II of FATAL ARMY AIR FORCES AVIATION ACCIDENT IN THE UNITED STATES.

The airplane collided with trees and then flew into rising terrain about three miles east of Epsom, NH. The airplane took off from Grenier Field, NH, on a flight to the European Theater. Ten men were killed in this accident. Wreckage is scattered for several hundred yards.
