Two Martin AM-1 Mauler attack planes in 1949. The plane in the foreground is armed with bombs and three topedoes, the plane in the background is carrying twelve 12.7 cm (5 in) HVAR-rockets under the wings, two Tiny Tim rockets, and a bomb on the centerline station.
Too bad there is not one of those still flying.

Great photo.
...probably not flying 'cos they ran outa gas!
So, what's the scenario where that load makes sense. Is it:
a) Attacking the enemy with the torpedos and tiny tims, and the hvars, and following up with bombs?
b) Impressing the pants of the babes
c) Impressing the cash outa Congress for more?
Answers on a postcard to someone else.

If real ordonance, T-Off with all that weight must be a dicey affair in any case.
I've always been impressed with the full load Corsairs or Skyraiders could carry. Almost equivalent to what took a 4 engine heavy like a B-17 or B-24. Granted not the same range.

A competitor: Too complicated, unreliable, more expensive (bigger engine and airframe)

IIRC that aircraft was based here at KPDK, what was NAS Atlanta back then, & is displayed at the Navy Museum in Pensacola.
