I just had the opportunity to correspond with one of the writers of "Dogfights" and he related the following:

Quote:
"THC had a change of management during our second season (and they were more focused on reality) and they brought in Ice Road Truckers. Truckers doubled our ratings and we had been - at least in our first season - among their top shows. The hand writing was on the wall and our episode order was cut back..."

Saw a few segments of "Truckers". Seemed to be "Same old...same old" every week. Having driven a rig (in my ute), I wasn't impressed by the "danger" they touted every week.
"Truckers" was a contrived situation.
"Dogfights" was historically valuable.

Mudge the disappointed

the problem is ice road truckers = reality.... dogfights = history...

I really hope History Channel someday actually comes back to being the History Channel rather than the speculation/conjecture/truckers channel.

Ice Road Truckers has no business on the HISTORY channel. They should rebrand the channel if that's the type of audience/ratings. But history isn't exciting. ;)

I think the History Channel has their priorities straight - lots of programming with reality T.V., UFO's, Bigfoot, and end of world prophecies. Why let that get in the way of History? :?

BTW, both seasons of "Dogfights" are available now on DVD:

http://shop.history.com/detail.php?p=73 ... RF-2100331

I have this and have watched it several times. It's my most favorite aviation-themed DVD that I have. I highly recommend it and it looks great on a wide-screen HD t.v.!

I doubt HC is going to go back to real history. It would be like MTV going back to playing music videos.

Both Military History and the Military Channel are pretty good. If you watch them for a month, you pretty much see all the shows that they have. I don't think I can watch another episode of "Top Tens"
