HistoricP-51 Double Trouble Two

Working on a P-51 project (what else!?!) and ran into a few questions regarding the differences between the Historic Double Trouble Two and the very nice example now on the Warbird Circuit.

1. Black wing and tail stripes, not on vintage but on new one. Were these added late in the war?
2 Second Hole in fuselage about a foot aft of the "lift jack" hole in the tail, see it in the "B" of the historic shot. What is it? Is it on both sides or just starboard?

There are actually two P-51's in this scheme now in the US!

Black wing and tail stripes, not on vintage but on new one. Were these added late in the war?

These stripes were theatre identification marks applied when the aircraft arrived in the UK but prior to being issued to a unit (a black nose stripe was also added) and these were often removed or obliterated when individual unit markings were later applied.

Static vent port (with the stencilled or rubber stamped logo 'KEEP HOLES AND SURFACE CLEAN' applied adjacent to it). This port was on both sides of the fuselage.

I had been trying to figure out the wing and tail stripe and there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to who had them and who didn't! Being that the historic pics seems to show them NOT there, guess I won't add them! Thanks

Still a work in progress, with each profile taking 5-15 HOURs and little to NO PAY for them, I get to them as I can. I agree, too many Bluenosers (of course there are those out there that will say no such thing as too many Bluenosers, just what I happened to have at the moment!). Just trying to fill the layout at the moment with different AC, will be changing it up as time permits.

I know it's hard to express humor in a post.... but I was just yanking your chain. I am a neophyte in Photoshop and UNDERSTAND how time consuming and difficult it is... I think you're doing a fine job. But if and when you do get around to the Red Noses I'd love to see a Blondie from the 334th<g>......

Having served in the 334th for nearly 5 years I am a bit biased towards the Eagles... and the 4th in general.... if I ever win the lottery I'll paint my Mustang as Blondie... the best of the lot IMHO<g>.......

Well, if I'm going to get a "Blondie" done, one of those details that drive me nuts will have to be found. The game is called find the name of the crew chief, assistant crew chief, and Armorer! Finding a pic close enough to read these is a real scavenger hunt! Do you happen to know those for "Blondie", Gunner?
