Hi Lyle,
Good; at least we'll get the project documented properly :)

I could use some help with this F-89. Where is it currently located?

Mike

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

That's an old aerial shot. The Scorpion is presently located east of the school on the paved strip with all the whitish looking concrete squares. The EC-121 still parked at the school; but I couldn't see the 102, even from the air. Don't know where it wandered off to...

Well, the trailers are all loaded with the tools and transport stands; just have to hitch up and go in the morning. Sounds like it might be a little chilly over in Helena for a few days...

Hal,

If you don't mind, could you upload a photo or two from the move?
ImageAerial Visuals - Airframe Photo Upload - Northrop F-89J Scorpion, s/n 53-2453 USAF, c/r N16565

If anyone has any earlier photos they would like to share please consider uploading them as well. You can use the same link.

The airframe dossier can be viewed here...

Sounds like the -102 went from Helena to Great Falls, back to Helena (a little .gov involvement here) and FINALLY back to Great Falls...

Is this the same airfield/tech school where the EC-121 is located? It would be nice to have an update on her too.

Cheers,
Richard

Yeah, the -121 is still sitting at the school. Rumor I heard was that it would be moved down to the pad recently vacated by the Scorpion for the required work before flying it out.

Great news on the Scorpian. Hopefully the blog will continue to follow it's restoration.
