Watch those Cobras, they may look funny, but they BITE! They didn't do real well against top line fighters, but held their own. Packed a pretty good punch and helped stem the tide till newer, better AC could be brought to the fight. Looks like some VERY primitive fields being flown out of. Cool pics Jack! They really did patch the cracks for the first couple years of the war and don't get coverage like the P-51, P-40 or P-38. A real workhorse.

I have some book around here called "The World's Worst Aircraft" and they had the gall to put the P-39 in there. I think there were plenty of other "Worst Planes", guess when folks make lists it is a VERY subjective thing!!

Hello Jack,
I have specification for his photos. Fotos with Lt.Blanchard,1st Lt Thompson
(both 41st FS) and 1Lt. Schneider,2nd Lt Raines (both 40th FS) were taken immediately after their big air battle from 02/06/1943 over Wau. Other pilots from the collectionn were McDonough(plane No.23), Winburn (plane No.9), Taylor (plane No.5) Shirk (plane No. 24), DeBoer (plane No 7) - all from 40th FS and Lt Woodring from 41st FS with Plane No 175.

Alex said Ed Parks was OK but his book was complete HS! Alex was there from Dec 42 thru March 44 and flew 268 missions.

Is this another one of my childhood favourite warplane novels becoming suspect on the grounds of economy with the truth?
For me when I was young "Angels 20" was to PNG like Clostermann's "Big Show" was to the last years of the ETO.
They both made it seem very real to me at the time and also on reread since.
