Vintage Aircraft Weekend at Paine Field (Now with more pics)

Sun Sep 27, 2009 12:16 am

So, last year this event was known as Warbird Weekend but it's expanded in a great way. It was very laid back and casual last year and I was afraid that may have been lost with the added promotion and potential for more yahoos to show up and screw it up but it was pretty much perfect. I forgot to count but i'd guess at least 50-60 planes were on display today. A rough rundown would be 2 P-51's, the FHC Storch, Skyraider, PBY, Tigercat, a static only Me262, DeHavilland Heron, Beaver, a bunch of Navions, CJ-6's & T-6's, some Stearmans, various models of Stinsons, a Tiger Moth, a few Twin Beeches and many more various vintage aircraft.

Here is a photo of the highlight of the day. The PBY did a waterdrop while Bud & Ross Granley flew aside it. It was AWESOME!!!

Got alot of shots to sort through but they're coming, I promise.

Spooky, did "Grumpy" attend the show?

Nope, apparently still in C-eh N-eh D-eh @ Abottsford. I hope Al includes a picture of John Sessions' UPF because wacoykc will do a back flip over the scheme, it is BEEEOOOOTTIFUL!!
It was a good show and like STC I was fearful that somehow it would go sideways but it didn't, pretty cool watching Cascades Warbirds NAVIONS doing a three ship with smoke-

I believe it belongs to Fred Owen and is based in eastern Washington. Definate highlight of the weekend.

My computer is terribly slow and it took hours to get my pictures offloaded from my camera. I'm hoping to have a ton of pics to share later tonight or tomorrow. It'll be worth the wait, I promise.

Okay, I finally got a batch ready. I seem to have caught a bug (hopefully not that darn swine flu) which has slowed me a bit.

Let's start with the PBY

Great pics. What is the story with the Heron? I had no idea that one of those was flying in the US (and still with the original engines).
