Eh, why? It sort of annoys me when people airbrush random scrap then look to sell it for a mint. It's an attempt to cash in on something it isn't.

OK, I can see what it is supposed to be, but what is it really?

Is it a real cowling piece that came off of a homebuilt or a Piper or some other spam can that now has a completely ridiculous paint scheme on it? How airworthy would it be with bullet holes in it?

Or are you supposed to be proud to hang that piece of "art" on your wall as if it came off of a real P-40?

Agree with Chunks! I'm guessing the artist was hip enough to throw in that perfect row of bullet holes to be a bit comical about it. What a fun project it must've been for him .... and now, for those who get to see it. Especially those who've wrangled an airbrush before, and can fully appreciate what they're looking at. Very cool bit of aviation art! 8)

Oh, and GREAT photos too! :D

What!? It isn't one of the missing Stratolina cowlings??? :wink:

It is a fun piece and would look great in some man-cave or aviation themed bar...until some drunk goes, "Hey those bullet holes look real" and sticks his finger in it and it won't come back out....call 911...have to cut it off his finger!!!

Looks good as long as it's not a valuable aircraft part. Reminds me of the guy that drove up to our place with a F-86 drop tank all polished up, with fins welded to it to make it look like a shark, he even cut a sharks mouth in it - and he was proud of it. I wasn't sure who was going to kill him first, me or Scott. :twisted: "Hey Bubba, hold my beer, watch this!" :roll:

WHOA...Lighten up troops. It's nothing more or less than a piece of art. I guess the old "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" line is true here.
You guys don't seem to bash any of "our" artists for playing fast and loose with facts for the sake of art.

Anyhoo...I think it's pretty cool. Authenticity has nothing to do with the artistry and imagination shown on the piece.

LTFU. It's from an Aerostar. & it wasn't *airworthy* anyway, it's had a big dent hammered out of it. I assume you would rather it was weighed in for scrap?
Next time I have some genuine warbird skin I'll use it for welding practice, might just do that with the Stiletto & Spitfire skins I have just to PO the too tightly wrapped. :roll:
